Anyone out there an expert on registry cleaners?
Posted under Registry Cleaning Software by adminI have a software called RegCure that is a registry cleaner, but after running it and seeing the files that it shows as possible
problems, I really am not sure whether or not to allow it to "clean" all of them….am afraid it could cause some programs not to work properly. Anyone able to explain which files to look for that may be real problems, as opposed to
applications, and others that should not be deleted from the registry history?
For those of you suggesting CCleaner…had it, but cannot use it now, since I got Vista…it is incompatible with Vista. I am leaning towards the first
answerer….last time I used a registry cleaner, ended up having to take my machine into a tech because of all the problems it created…..so do the majority of you agree….they are not really that
necessary to have or useful, anyway, as long as your machine seems to be o.k.? Or, do you consider them just as necessary as virus and spyware protection? Can anyone actually define the "registry" for me, and how the cleaners work?

I’ve used CCleaner as well as the old Microsoft RegClean for years with no problems, but they’re not Vista compatible.
I’ve also used Eusing Free Registry Cleaner for quite awhile with no problems. It creates a backup before you tell it what changes to make. The 1st time I used it there were over 1100 items to remove, which I diligently went thru each individual one before deletion, and expecting the worst, guess what? Not a single problem.
I consider reg cleaning important, tho not nearly as vital as anti-virus & anti-spyware scanning. Nor is it needed as often. I run it every couple weeks & find 80-100 items to remove to a backup & then delete the previous backup. There is a noticable speed increase in startup & in general. Like you, I install & remove programs regularly, so I need it.

i had lots of experience with registry cleaners a couple of years back … my conclusion: … cleaning the registry creates more problems than it solves and usually leads to a reformat … i havent used them since … havent been forced into a reformat since either and my machines run fine and fast without them ..
DUDE. the best one out there is CCleaner. its the s$%#.
it works great and wont delete anything you dont want it to
ccleaner.com
maybe the program has a feature to backup the register before making changes. If not make a backup yourself using Regedit
Start->Run->typ regedit
in the menubar find backup or save Register. After that run your program. If things don’t work properly you can restore the registersettings you saved earlier
Without seeing the list it would be difficult to tell.
However, I wouldn’t use a registry cleaner at all. Sure, entries are left behind after an application has been uninstalled, but it’s nothing to worry about.
In this instance, I’d leave the registry alone unless you’re trying to remove a virus or other malicious software.
