Question by : Is it necessary to have registry cleaners on your pc?
2 days ago I downloaded and installed windows registry cleaner and it said it found 3000 or more errors but it just done a scan again and found 493. is this a genuine piece of software. I rarely use registry cleaners, i just use c cleaner and my pc and netbook both work fine most of the time. is registry cleaning / defragging really needed?

3,000 errors doesn’t sound right to me. I’d get rid of that program if I were you. You say you have Ccleaner … Ccleaner already has a built in registry cleaner. Open Ccleaner and click “Registry” on the left side of the screen, then click “Scan for Issues” at the bottom. See what happens. I’d bet you don’t get 3,000 errors. Just make sure before you fix the issues, you backup it up; Ccleaner is automatically set up to ask you this before you fix the problems.

Question by : What are some good windows registry cleaners?
My computer is starting to get really slow, and my friend told me that it is probably because the registry needs to be repaired/cleaned out. Never cleaned it out before, so I don’t really know what to do, since there is a lot of different software out there. Don’t want to have to buy a new computer if i can get it much faster just by doing this.

Registry cleaning is a myth for people who know little about computers. You don’t need to “clean” the registry and doing so is not going to solve any real problems or improve performance. All a registry cleaner does is look for some obsoletes values and delete them, it can’t repair anything.
Computer’s get slow because of the amount of stuff running on them…programs and applications that load when Windows starts. Focus on that, disable some stuff from starting automatically if it doesn’t need to or you don’t want it to. Some programs you can stop from starting when Windows starts by going into the settings for the program, other stuff you can disable by opening msconfig, clicking on the startup tab and unchecking some things.
Don’t have more than one anti-virus program installed that runs in real-time. Uninstall unnecessary programs.
Scan for malware and viruses.
Defrag the partition Windows is on if it needs it.
