Is there a way to repair the windows registry by copying an original registry from the windows xp pro disk?

Question by OOO: Is there a way to repair the windows registry by copying an original registry from the windows xp pro disk?
This is for Windows XP Professional SP3. I cant do system restore or download any registry fix programs because .exe extensions do not work. I am always getting the “open with” window and have to constantly select what to open with.

If you have the disk, than you would be better off just backing up files manually (Copy-Paste Method) and reinstalling.
There is a way, but you would need some advanced disk editing software on a different computer.
