the first intructions were :
Step 1. Repair “running of .exe files”.

Notepad opens. Copy all the text below into Notepad.

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClasses.exe]
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareClassessecfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTsecfile]
[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.exeshellopencommand]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTexefileshellopencommand]
@=""%1" %*"
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.exe]
@="exefile"

Save this as fix.reg to your Desktop (remember to select Save as file type: All files in Notepad.)
Double Click fix.reg and click YES for confirm.
Reboot your computer.

Try scanning alternatively with Spyware Doctor anti-spyware, maybe some parts of the virus blocking you are still there.
About all I can think of is that that fix.reg file didn’t do what it was supposed to. Try this:
Right-click on the fix.reg file on your Desktop and make sure its name is indeed fix.reg. If it isn’t, change it to that and double-click it again. A black window should open to run the commands in the file, then close.
Good luck.
Some important keys in the registry may be deleted. First, check the extentions of the file that can’t be opened. For example, if the extensions is .doc, you, of course, can’t open it without office. Please select "open the file in the right way." It is also probable that the file associations are broken. RegistryMum can fix many registry problems, it may help you though it. You can visit http://www.registrymum.com to know more about it. Good luck.
Go to control panel -> folder options -> file types tab. Find the extension that is having a problem and select the program for this extension and this will fix the problem.
If you don’t know the proper program, you can do a Yahoo search to find it.
You can also try an XP repair.
In general you want to do a repair install and NOT use the repair console.
Detailed instructions for a repair install are here http://michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm He also describes how to create an XP disk with the service pack included easily.
If you can no longer do a repair install or find it too complicated, DO NOT reformat and reinstall as this will wipe you out and leave you with nothing but the operating system. You would have to reinstall all your programs and much of your data would be inaccessible.
Reimage can repair your system even if a repair install fails. It costs a little but it is well worth it to save your data. It takes about 30 minutes and preserves your programs and data. If you are not happy with the results, you don’t have to pay and you can reverse any changes that it made.
