   To really increase the speed of your laptop, unload all unwanted services and startup apps from boot like MSN and stuff.

   Also get a lean AV suite. Avira is the best free one that is easy on system resources, followed by Avast Home. Avoid AVG.

   A greta free firewall for XP is Jetico

   Unload startup Apps

   Start Run
   msconfig

   CLick Services tab and check "Hide all MS Services"
   Uncheck unwanted services

   Click Starup Tab and uncheck unwanted boot apps.

   Click OK and reboot.

   CCleaner works great.. But I also found System Mechanic works really well also, in helping to speed up your computer.. Unfortunately.. It costs $$ to have it.. But luckily they have a free 6 month trial out..
